Jennifer Finch was born on August 5, 1966, in West Los Angeles and was adopted by Robert Edward Finch, an aeronautics engineer, and Sandra Jacobson. She developed an early interest in photography and music, attending art sessions at Otis Parsons in 1980. Her musical career began in the mid-1980s with San Francisco band Sugar Babydoll, which featured Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland.

In 1986, Finch joined L7, the Los Angeles punk rock group, where she served as bassist through the band's most successful period in the early 1990s. She contributed to albums including L7 (1988), Smell the Magic (1990), Bricks Are Heavy (1992), and Hungry for Stink (1994), and wrote several songs including "(Right On) Thru" and "Everglade." After leaving L7 in 1996 to attend college, she formed OtherStarPeople and The Shocker before rejoining the reunited L7 in 2014.

Finch was also known for her photography work and remained active with L7 until her death from brain cancer on July 18, 2026, at age 59.
