Scott Dureau was born on 29 July 1986 in Taree, New South Wales, Australia. He played junior football for the Port Macquarie Sharks before signing with the Newcastle Knights, making his NRL debut in 2007. Over four seasons with Newcastle, he appeared in 42 games as a goal-kicking halfback before moving to the French Super League club Catalans Dragons in 2011.
Dureau achieved significant success in the Super League, earning selection in the Dream Team in both 2011 and 2012. His finest season came in 2012 when he was awarded the Albert Goldthorpe Medal, the Super League equivalent of the NRL's Dally M medal. He made 97 appearances for the Catalans Dragons across two stints with the club, becoming an iconic figure for the team.
His playing career was interrupted by health challenges, including surgery in 2013 and 2014 to remove a benign tumour behind his eye. After retiring from professional play in 2015, Dureau transitioned into coaching with the Newcastle Knights. He battled cancer for more than a decade before his death on 19 July 2026 at age 39.
