Tony Thorpe, born Anthony John Thorpe, was a guitarist and vocalist for the English glam-rock band the Rubettes. The band formed in 1973 from a session-musician team and quickly achieved success with their doo-wop inspired sound and distinctive white suits uniform.
The Rubettes' single "Sugar Baby Love" reached number one on the UK charts in 1974 and also charted in the U.S. top 40, becoming the band's signature song. The group sold millions of singles throughout their career, primarily in Europe, with additional hits including "Tonight," "Juke Box Jive," and "I Can Do It."
Thorpe sang lead vocals on several songs in the band's catalog, including the country-influenced single "Baby I Know." He remained with the group until 1979, after which the Rubettes continued to perform and record in various lineups.
