William H. Wisher Jr. was an American screenwriter and producer who achieved prominence through his collaborations with director James Cameron. Born in 1955, he co-wrote the screenplay for The Terminator (1984), the science fiction action film that launched a major franchise and established Arnold Schwarzenegger as a leading action star. He returned to write Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), which became one of the highest-grossing films of its time and is widely regarded as a landmark in visual effects and action cinema.

Beyond the Terminator franchise, Wisher's screenwriting credits included Judge Dredd (1995), The 13th Warrior (1999), and both Exorcist: The Beginning and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. He also served as an uncredited script doctor on several major action films, including Die Hard with a Vengeance and Live Free or Die Hard, on which he also worked as an executive producer. Wisher occasionally appeared in cameo roles in the films he worked on, including brief appearances in both Terminator films and The Abyss.

Wisher died on July 14, 2026, at the age of 71. His family confirmed that he passed away peacefully at home, noting his belief that stories have the power to connect people across generations.
