Zale Parry was born on March 19, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one of seven children. She learned to swim at an early age and joined a Florida water show in ninth grade, touring through the Midwestern United States for three years. She was a swimming champion and studied dramatics at UCLA.

While working at Douglas Aircraft Company in Santa Monica, California, Parry became involved in pioneering diving and scientific work. In 1954, she set a women's depth record by diving to 209 feet, exceeding the previous record of 80 feet. This achievement led to an appearance on 'You Bet Your Life' with Groucho Marx.

Parry made her screen debut in 1954's 'Kingdom of the Sea' and appeared in 78 episodes of the series. She was subsequently tapped for the television series 'Sea Hunt', which she referred to as an 'underwater western'. Her acting career included appearances on 'GE Theatre', 'Wagon Train', 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea', and 'Peter Gunn'. She doubled for Sophia Loren in the 1957 film 'Boy on a Dolphin' and worked as a stunt woman on numerous productions involving underwater scenes. Parry served on the board of directors of the Underwater Photographic Society and later became its president. She died on July 20, 2026, at age 93.
