Ken Harwood was born in 1948 in Consett, County Durham, and worked as a postmaster for three decades, becoming a well‑known figure in his community. After retiring from the post office, he served as a local councillor before stepping down in 2013.

From 2020 to 2022, Harwood and his wife Anne joined the cast of Channel 4’s popular reality programme Gogglebox, featuring in five series (series 15‑19) and gaining a national audience for their candid commentary on television programmes. Their long marriage of 55 years and warm family presence were frequently highlighted on the show.

Harwood died at the age of 77 after a short illness, leaving behind his wife Anne, two sons, Simon and Ross, daughter‑in‑law Elle, and grandchildren Freya and Tristram. He was remembered by colleagues and fans for his humor, humility, and the genuine warmth he brought to both his public service and television work.
