Tom Kane was born Thomas Kane Roberts on April 15, 1962, in Overland Park, Kansas. He began his voice‑over career at age 15, doing local commercial work before moving into national television spots by his mid‑twenties.

Kane became a prolific voice talent, lending his distinctive voice to dozens of animated series and video games. He is most remembered for portraying Jedi Master Yoda and Admiral Ackbar in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars franchise, as well as Professor Utonium in The Powerpuff Girls. His credits also include roles in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, The Wild Thornberrys, Magneto in Wolverine and the X‑Men, and numerous characters in Call of Duty and Fortnite. He served as the announcer for several Academy Awards ceremonies.

In his personal life, Kane married Cindy Roberts in 1982 and together they raised nine children—three biological and six adopted or fostered. He suffered a left‑sided stroke in 2020 that left him with right‑side weakness and speech difficulties, eventually leading to his early retirement.

Kane died on May 18, 2026, at a hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, from complications related to the stroke. He was 64 years old, leaving behind a legacy of beloved characters that shaped the childhoods of millions.
