Particulars

Alessandro "Alex" Fiorio was an Italian rally driver born in Turin, the son of motorsport executive Cesare Fiorio. He began his career in the early 1980s, moving from skiing to rallying and competing in the Panda Ice Trophy and the Fiat Uno championship before entering the World Rally Championship in 1986 with the Jolly Club team.

Driving the dominant Lancia Delta, Fiorio won the inaugural FIA Group N Cup in 1987 and became a leading figure in Lancia's golden era, finishing third in the drivers' world championship in 1988 and second in 1989 behind teammate Miki Biasion. Over his career he reached the podium nine times, with six second places and three third places, though he never secured a rally victory.

After retiring from top-level competition, Fiorio worked as a team manager, leading the Honda Benetton Playlife team to the 125cc constructors' title in 2000 and later managing the BMW Cibiemme team. He also founded the Fiorio Cup rally series. He died from stomach cancer in 2026 at the age of 61.
