Particulars

Baek In-chun was a Korean professional baseball player and manager who spent most of his career in Nippon Professional Baseball before returning to his ethnic homeland to help launch the KBO League. He was one of the first Koreans to play professional baseball in Japan, joining the Toei Flyers in 1962 as a catcher before converting to a slugging, speedy outfielder.

Over roughly 20 seasons in Japan he hit 209 home runs and stole 212 bases, winning the 1975 Pacific League batting title with a .319 average and earning a Best Nine Award. In 1982 he joined the new KBO League as player-manager of MBC Chungyong, hitting .412, still the KBO record for the highest single-season batting average and the only .400 season in league history.

As a manager he later led the LG Twins to their first KBO championship in 1990, earning Manager of the Year honors, and went on to manage the Samsung Lions and Lotte Giants. He was recognized for his contributions to Japan-Korea baseball exchange and friendship.
