Euclides Fagundes Filho, known professionally as Bagre Fagundes, was born on October 3, 1939, in Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul. He earned his nickname "Bagre" during adolescence and carried it throughout his life. His career spanned multiple fields including music, law, politics, and cultural preservation.

As a musician, his greatest achievement was composing "Canto Alegretense" alongside his brother Nico Fagundes, which became one of the most emblematic songs of Rio Grande do Sul and a symbol of regional pride. He performed with his sons Ernesto, Neto, and Paulinho as the group Os Fagundes, maintaining an active touring schedule throughout his life.

Beyond music, Fagundes was a lawyer graduated from Universidade de Cruz Alta, served as a city councilman in Alegrete, worked as a football player and referee, presided over the Instituto Gaúcho de Tradição e Folclore (IGTF), and wrote columns for Diário Gaúcho newspaper. In 2019, he received the Troféu Origens from RBS TV honoring his contributions to regional culture. He died on August 2, 2026, at age 86.
