Carlo Borlenghi was born in 1956 in Bellano, on Lake Como, Italy. He became the pre‑eminent photographer of sailing, documenting the sport for more than forty years. His work covered the America’s Cup from the early days of the Italian team Azzurra through the Moro di Venezia and Luna Rossa campaigns, as well as other major races such as the Middle Sea Race, the Giraglia, the Whitbread and the Volvo Ocean Race.

Borlenghi’s images were widely published and praised for their technical skill and ability to capture the drama of the sport. He was regarded as the most famous sailing photographer in Italy and one of the most renowned worldwide, with his photographs appearing on the official social media channels of the America’s Cup and in numerous sailing publications.

He died suddenly on the night of 2 August 2026 at the age of 70. His funeral was held in his hometown of Bellano on 5 August, where the sailing community gathered to remember his contributions to the sport and to photography.
