Claudia Savaget Fiani
1948–2026Brazilian MPB singer known for her deep, grave voice and five refined albums released between 1974 and 2004.
Particulars
Claudia Savaget Fiani was born on July 1, 1948, in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, where she began her singing career at the Clube 85 nightclub. Her distinctive grave vocal register drew comparisons to legendary Brazilian singers Nora Ney and Nana Caymmi, yet she maintained her own unique signature and timbre within the MPB universe.
Over a thirty-year recording career from 1974 to 2004, Savaget released five albums marked by elegance and sophisticated repertoire selection. Her debut album "Impacto" (1974) was independently released and featured songs by Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo, and Torquato Neto. Subsequent albums included "Samambaias" (1978), "Mordida ou beijo" (1979), a self-titled release (1985), and her final album "Caminhando" (2004). The sambista Cartola was known to admire her voice and publicly praised the singer during the 1970s.
Disenchanted with the music industry's shifting preferences in the 1980s, Savaget largely withdrew from the scene before returning with her final album two decades later. She died on July 13, 2026, at age 78, survived by her husband, violonist Luiz Otávio Braga.
