Particulars

Felipe Gutiérrez Muñoz, known professionally as Lipe, was born in Noblejas, Toledo, in 1958. He became a founding member and bassist of Tequila, one of the most influential rock bands in Spain during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Alongside Ariel Rot, Alejo Stivel, Julián Infante, and Manolo Iglesias, Lipe helped create a new sound that brought rock and roll to mainstream Spanish audiences during the country's democratic Transition.

Tequila achieved massive popularity with hits like Rock and Roll en la Plaza del Pueblo, Quiero Besarte, Dime que Me Quieres, and Salta!, which became anthems of the era. The band released four albums between 1978 and 1981, selling hundreds of thousands of copies and becoming symbols of Spanish rock music. Their success ran parallel to the Movida Madrileña, though Tequila maintained a more classic rock sound inspired by The Rolling Stones and The Kinks.

After Tequila disbanded in 1982, Lipe stepped back from professional music to study psychology and worked at Proyecto Hombre, a drug rehabilitation organization. He occasionally reunited with former bandmates for special projects, including the 2022 documentary Tequila: Sexo, drogas y rock and roll. He died on August 4, 2026, in Ocaña, Toledo, at the age of 68.
