Particulars
Felipe Gutiérrez Muñoz, known professionally as Felipe Lipe, was a Spanish musician and bassist who co-founded the rock band Tequila in Madrid around 1976-1977. Alongside Argentine musicians Alejo Stivel and Ariel Rot, and fellow Spaniards Julián Infante and Manolo Iglesias, Lipe helped create the first major mass rock phenomenon in Spanish during the early years of Spain's democratic transition.
Tequila produced numerous hits that became anthems of the era, including Rock and Roll en la plaza del pueblo, Necesito un trago, Quiero besarte, and most famously ¡Salta!, which remains iconic to this day. The band provided the soundtrack to youth liberation and became a lasting reference point for Spanish rock music.
The group dissolved in the early 1980s, marked by premature success and excess, though their legacy endured. Lipe retired from public life in his later years and passed away at age 68 in Ocaña, Toledo, where he had spent his final years.
