Glória Menezes, born Nilcedes Soares de Magalhães in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, was one of the most celebrated actresses in Brazilian television history. She began her career in theatre, founding the Jovens Independentes group, and made her television debut on TV Tupi in 1959. In 1962 she starred in the landmark film O Pagador de Promessas, which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

She joined TV Globo in 1967 with Sangue e Areia and went on to appear in more than 40 telenovelas, including Irmãos Coragem, Guerra dos Sexos, Brega & Chique, Rainha da Sucata, Torre de Babel, Senhora do Destino and A Favorita. Her portrayal of Laurinha Figueroa in Rainha da Sucata became one of the most memorable characters of her career.

Menezes was married to fellow actor Tarcísio Meira for nearly six decades, and the couple became one of the most famous and enduring pairs in Brazilian television, starring together in numerous productions including the series Tarcísio & Glória. She received numerous honors, including an APCA award, three Troféu Imprensa awards, and the Troféu Mário Lago for her artistic trajectory. She died in Rio de Janeiro on 18 August 2026 at age 91.
