Johannes Krisch (1966-2026) was a distinguished Austrian character actor whose career spanned theater, film, and television. Born in Vienna, he initially trained as a carpenter before transitioning to acting, beginning his professional career in 1986. He became an ensemble member of the prestigious Burgtheater in 1989, where he performed for three decades, and later joined the Theater in der Josefstadt.
His film work earned him international recognition, particularly for his leading role in Götz Spielmann's Revanche (2008), which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. He won the Austrian Film Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of serial killer Jack Unterweger in Jack (2016). His other notable films included Finsterworld, Aus dem Nichts, and Der Trafikant. On television, he appeared in the acclaimed series Braunschlag and multiple episodes of the crime series Tatort.
