Particulars

Jorge María Martínez García, known professionally as Jorge Ilegal, was a Spanish musician, composer, and singer born in Avilés, Asturias in 1955. He began his musical career in the 1970s playing in popular orchestras before founding the rock band Ilegales in 1982, which became one of the most influential groups in Spanish rock history.

With Ilegales, Martínez released more than a dozen albums including classics like Todos están muertos (1985), Agotados de esperar el fin (1984), and Chicos pálidos para la máquina (1988). The band achieved nationwide success and performed internationally, earning a Diamond Disc award for selling over one million records. Martínez also worked as a producer through his label Discóbolo Records and later founded La Casa del Misterio.

After Ilegales dissolved in 2010, he formed Jorge Ilegal y los Magníficos, exploring boleros, tangos, and other Latin styles. He remained an active performer and cultural figure, participating in documentaries and publishing authorized biographies. Martínez was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2025 and died on 9 December 2025 in Oviedo at age 70.
