Laura Cardoso, born Laurinda de Jesus Cardoso Balleroni in São Paulo in 1927, was one of the most celebrated actresses in Brazilian dramaturgy. She began her career in radio in the 1940s and became a pioneer of Brazilian television, working from its inauguration in 1950. Over more than eight decades she appeared in over 100 telenovelas across the major Brazilian networks, including TV Tupi, Record, Band, TV Cultura, and Globo, where she worked from 1983 onward.

Cardoso built one of the richest galleries of characters in Brazilian television, with memorable roles in productions such as Mulheres de Areia, A Viagem, Irmãos Coragem, Chocolate com Pimenta, Caminho das Índias, and the remake of Gabriela. She also had a distinguished theater career, winning two Prêmio Shell for Best Actress, and appeared in numerous films, earning three Prêmio Grande Otelo awards.

Her work was recognized with five APCA awards, two Troféu Imprensa awards, and in 2006 she was decorated with the Ordem do Mérito Cultural by the Brazilian presidency for her artistic contribution to the country. She was widely regarded as one of the most complete and versatile actresses in Brazilian dramaturgy, reaching multiple generations of viewers.
