Monica Levy
?–2026Israeli bassist in the early lineup of the punk-rock band Hot Killer, whose nickname inspired the name of the band Monica Sex.
Particulars
Monica Levy was an Israeli musician who played bass in the early lineup of the Haifa punk-rock band Hot Killer (קילר הלוהטת), founded in 1976 by Yoram Mark-Reich and Yaron Dekel. The band, influenced by punk, glam, and rock, released the satirical political hit "I Want to Be Prime Minister" in 1981, which received significant airplay during that year's Knesset election campaign.
Born in Romania as Monica Friedman, she immigrated to Israel with her family at age six and grew up in Beersheba. During her military service as an investigator in the military police, she met her future husband Meir Levy and connected with the founders of Hot Killer. In the early 1980s she was known by the nickname "Monica Sex," which later inspired the name of the famous Israeli rock band Monica Sex.
She left the band upon her marriage and pregnancy. She passed away in 2026 after a four-year battle with a serious illness, leaving behind her husband, two sons, and six grandchildren.
