Roberto José Avelino Bonavides was a Brazilian lawyer and politician from Santos, São Paulo. Born in Santos on 30 November 1937, he built a career in law and public service, serving as a city councilor (vereador) and twice as president of the Câmara Municipal de Santos, first between 1985 and 1986 and again from 1989 to 1990.

Beyond his legislative leadership, Bonavides worked as a legal advisor to the Câmara de Cubatão and as a technical legislative advisor to the Assembleia Legislativa de São Paulo. He also served as an examining member of the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB-SP) in the areas of criminal law and criminal procedure.

Bonavides died on 17 August 2026 at the age of 88, following complications from a fall at home. The city of Santos declared three days of official mourning in his honor.
