Particulars
Takaichi Mabuchi was a Japanese businessman who co-founded Mabuchi Motor, the world's largest manufacturer of small electric motors. Born in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, he worked alongside his elder brother Kenichi to develop and manufacture small motors used in automobiles, audio equipment, toys, and consumer electronics. In 1954 the brothers established Tokyo Science Industry, the predecessor of Mabuchi Motor, and Takaichi became president in 1985, guiding the company to the top of the global small-motor market.
Under his leadership Mabuchi Motor expanded internationally, building production bases across Asia and supplying motors to major manufacturers worldwide. The company's products became ubiquitous in applications ranging from hobby models and miniature cars to automotive components and household appliances. Takaichi later served as chairman and then honorary chairman of the company.
In 2002 his wife and daughter were murdered in a home invasion at his residence in Matsudo, Chiba, a tragedy that drew national attention. He offered a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators, which helped solve the case. He died in August 2026 at the age of 93.
