Particulars
Tsuri Sagi was a senior commander in the Israel Defense Forces' Paratroopers Brigade, serving for 32 years in operational and command roles. He enlisted in 1952, commanded a platoon under Arik Sharon, and served as a battalion commander in Rafael Eitan's brigade. Sagi was best known as one of the architects of Israel's ties with Kurdish rebels. Sent to Kurdistan on behalf of the Mossad, he helped train and strategize with Kurdish forces under Mustafa Barzani, planning the ambush that destroyed an Iraqi brigade at the battle of Mount Handrin in 1966 and assisting the Peshmerga again during the Second Iraqi–Kurdish War in 1974. His work earned him lasting admiration among the Kurdish people.
In 2012 he received the Ramat Gan honorary citizen award. He died on 19 August 2026 at the age of 92.
